Flamingos ready for Guinea test in World Cup qualifier

Flamingos will travel to Côte d’Ivoire on Wednesday, May 20, for their FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifying match against Guinea.

The Nigerian team, under coach Akeem Busari, is preparing for the first-leg encounter scheduled for May 23.

The Flamingos are currently camped in Ikenne, where they are rounding off preparations at the Remo Stars Stadium ahead of the important fixture.

Team officials confirmed that the players and officials travelled from Abuja to Lagos before arriving in Ikenne later in the evening.

The coaching crew has continued to work on the team after strong performances in several friendly matches during camping.

Since entering camp in April, the Flamingos have impressed in their test games. They defeated SoloWonders Babes 7-0, beat YAFA 5-0, thrashed Nazareth 6-0 and also recorded a 7-0 victory over Generation Next.

Their only draw came in a 1-1 result against Real Rising.

The team also defeated Lakesides 5-0 in another friendly match played at the Remo Stars Stadium.

The Flamingos are regarded as one of the best women’s youth teams in Africa after reaching the semi-finals of previous FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup competitions.

Nigeria will now hope to continue their strong form against Guinea as they chase a place at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco later this year.
