The Governor who made this commendation in Ilorin while playing host to a new commandant, 22 Armourned Brigade, Nigeria Army, Sobi, Brigadier-General Sulaiman Idris and the out-going commandant, Brigadier-General Benjamin Sawyerr, reiterated his readiness to continue to strengthen relationship with security organizations in the state.
According to Governor Ahmed, the Nigeria Army is a pride to the nation and has demonstrated sufficient competence to secure the nation against internal and external aggressions. “Given the enabling environment, the Army has the capacity to protect and secure the country,” the governor said.
Dr Ahmed eulogised the out-going commandant as someone who had truly demonstrated his professionalism by being “able to strengthen security in the state and created interface between the military and the civilian team especially in Share/Tsaragi axis where we have skirmishes of communal clashes,” he said.
The governor promised to give needed support to security agencies in the state in order to make their job easier and ensure the existence of a peaceful environment that will bring about economic growth and development.
Earlier, the out-gone commandant, Brigadier-General Benjamin Sawyerr noted that initially there were lots of worries with the choice of 22 brigade being deployed to the North East but assured the governor that the rear personnel are capable of providing the needed security to keep the state safe and secured.
He recalled that the brigade had at different times arrested wanted Boko Haram suspects No 41, 85 and 126, thereby ensuring that the sect did not have a base in the state.
