The Golden Eaglets of Nigeria have won the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile. This makes it the fifth time that the country’s Under 17 team would be winning the coveted trophy.
The Emmanuel Amuneke tutored team beat the Malian side to emerge victorious. Victor Osimhen and Funsho Bamgboye scored the goals that brought Nigeria the well deserved soccer glory.
Osimhen’s goal, the 10th of the competition also made him the highest goal scorer in the tournament and in the championship’s 30 –year history.
The Golden Eaglets captain Kelechi Nwakali was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament, Osimhen won the Second Best Player award as well as the Top Scorer’s prize while Mali’s Aly Malle was third prize winner.
President Muhammadu Buhari would by this victory also be receiving the trophy twice twice, first as military Head of State and now as civilian President of Nigeria.
