South Africa-based Dr. Emeka Ugwu receives title at Igwe Nnadi’s Coronation/Ofala ceremony

The President of the Nigerian Doctors Forum – South Africa (NDF-SA), Dr. Emeka Ugwu, has accepted a nomination for the conferment of a traditional title on him by His Royal Majesty (HRM) Igwe Barrister  Simeon Nnadi, Ohabueze II of Ovoko Agu Autonomous Community, Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area of Enugu State.

A letter notifying the prominent South Africa-based Nigerian medical practitioner of his nomination for the conferment of the title, signed by Ichie Pius Onah, AFUNWA, Palace Secretary and Ichie Jim Mbaeze, OMEGBEOJI, Cabinet Secretary/Secretary, Coronation Committee, stated that conferment of traditional titles will be part of the formal Coronation/Ofala ceremony of Igwe Barrister Nnadi.

The formal Coronation/Ofala ceremony, the letter said, is slated for November 16, 2024, and follows the selection by the community, and formal recognition of HRM Igwe Barr. Simeon Nnadi as the traditional ruler of the Ovoko-Agu Autonomous Community by the Enugu State government in 2022.

At the Coronation/Ofala ceremony, the notice said further, traditional titles will be conferred “on some deserving persons who have either excelled in their areas of human endeavour or made some contributions to the community,” pointing out that Dr. Ugwu’s selection for the honour, is based on the assessment of his contributions to the development of the community and the society at large.

In his letter of acceptance of the nomination, addressed to the traditional ruler, Dr. Ugwu, a Consultant Family Physician based in Pretoria, South Africa, said: “I feel highly honoured to be considered worthy, to receive such an exalted recognition, by yourself, your council, and the entire Ovoko-Agu Autonomous Community.”

His Royal Majesty (HRM), Igwe Samuel Ikechukwu Asadu, Igwe Ogadagidi, who currently doubles as the Chairman of the Enugu State Council of Traditional Rulers, and the South East Council of Traditional Rulers, will be the Royal Father of the day at the event.

All roads will, surely, lead to Ovoko-Agu Autonomous Community of Enugu State on November 16, 2024 for the historic Coronation/Ofala Ceremony and the conferment of the traditional titles on the deserving personalities, including Dr. Ugwu, as indigenes of the Community, relatives, friends and associates of the celebrants from all over the world will troop in for the landmark event.
