Twitter takes on President Buhari; Deletes his threat tweet

Social network company, Twitter, has picked on President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria for a veiled threat on his twitter handle, to deal with those threatening the country.
In the tweet, President Buhari, who was reacting to the burning of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) offices, Police stations and other federal government facilities, especially in the South East and South South geo-political zones of the country, had warned that “Whoever wants the destruction of the system will soon have the shock of their lives. We’ve given them enough time.
“Many of those misbehaving today are too young to be aware of the destruction and loss of lives that occurred during the Nigerian Civil War.
“Those of us in the fields for 30 months, who went through the war, will treat them in the language they understand.”
The statement was made when the INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, and members of the Commission visited the State House on Tuesday to brief the President on the situation concerning the attack on their offices by unknown gunmen.
The tweet, which is seen as having violated Twitter’s rules was deleted by the company after it sparked an outrage on Tuesday evening by those who interpreted it as a veiled threat of genocide against the people of the South East and South South geo-political zones of the country. Several social media users were said to have reported the President’s Twitter account, leading to the action of the popular international company.
