UI to host world record 100-hour marathon theatre event Sept. 1

Olafemi George, Creative Director, Team Oyo for Peter Fatomilola World Theatre Centre (PFWTC), says it will hold the longest marathon theatre performance in Nigeria in September this year.
George told newsmen on Friday in Ile Ife, Osun that the 100 hours world record performance would run from Sept. 1 to Sept 5 and would feature non- stop plays, music, dance and comedy at the University of Ibadan.
According to him, the Team will be using the event to launch the Digital Theatre Experiment where about One Million Online Subscribers are expected to watch the different musical-plays during the 100 hours attempt on their mobile devices with a minimum of N500 subscription.
The Director added that the theatre performance would be championed by Chief Peter Fatomilola, as the Lead Director for the Guinness World Record Attempt, which would also help raise funds to build the proposed Fatomilola World Theatre Centre in Ile-Ife as a legacy in his name.
George said that the initiative was aimed at breaking the world record of 76 hours of non-stop theatre performance.
According to him, the Oyo State Government has indicated interest in hosting the event while the state Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism has endorsed the programme.
In his remarks, Chief Peter Fatomilola, thanked the organisers of the programme, the Ooni of Ife and Gov Seyi Makinde of Oyo State for their support and for sponsoring the programme.
Fatomilola admonished Nigerians to embrace the film industry and support the programme to uplift the Yoruba culture and traditional heritage.
Earlier, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja 11, promised to donate a piece of land to PFWTC in honour of the renowned artiste.
The Ooni, who was represented by Princess Aderonke Ademiluyi, Vice-Chairman of Oduduwa Foundation, commended the organisers for celebrating the Ile Ife based artiste who has spent 47 years on stage.
