What IATF 2025 has done for me and my business – Lady Barbara Masikala

I started Masikalan Uganda after failing to get a job having graduated with a Master’s degree from Makerere University, in Uganda.
We transform imperfect fruits into high-quality, antioxidant-rich wine and other products like laundry solutions, hair care products, cosmetics, and baby products.
I was able to participate in the Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF) 2025 that just ended in Algiers, capital of Algeria, through an opportunity provided by the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank).
This event has allowed me to connect with professionals, gain insights into collaborations and innovative thinking, and I have been able to showcase my products at a bigger market.
It has been a great experience for my business, offering me a platform to connect with professionals, explore new markets, and forge strategic partnerships.
The event’s focus on promoting intra-African trade and investment, has been highly relevant to my business and other Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs). This initiative will enable me to grow my business by providing exposure, networking opportunities, and access to potential investors.
I have also been able to get a fully funded trip to Turkey to showcase my cosmetic products. I have equally met one investor from Nigeria who is coming to Uganda towards the end of the month just to see my production Unit and potentially invest in it.
I would advise other entrepreneurs to seize opportunities like the IATF and SME Agribusiness programs to gain exposure, network, and access potential investors. These platforms can help entrepreneurs grow their businesses and achieve remarkable success.
