With the increasingly hot weather conditions and owing to the fact that tyre bursts of recent, accounted for most Road Traffic Crashes, the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, has called on all vehicle owners and drivers to pay keen attention to the conditions of their vehicles’ tyres more than ever before.

According to Bisi Kazeem, the Head Media Relations and Strategy of the Corps, tyre burst is one of the factors responsible for Road Traffic Crashes. In his words, “some tyres are expired, some are substandard products, some are under-inflated, some are over-inflated, and some have been handled wrongly by vulcanizers”.

While he called on vehicle owners and drivers to pay attention to the way and manner their tyres are fixed, and to ensure that their tyres are installed with all the knots tightly fitted and intact, Commander Kazeem has also called on vehicle owners to be conscious of the fact that the hot weather conditions these days also have significant effect on the tyres, hence the need for all motorists to adopt common sense speed limit.

The Head Media Relations and strategy stressed that most substandard tyres quickly wear out in such a weather condition currently experienced in the country, thereby losing its grip on the road as a result of gradual meltdown in quality.

In the light of the foregoing, he advised that given the conditions of the roads and the possibilities that a few tyres may be substandard and fast wearing out, some expired, and some not installed rightly, the Corps expects motorists to drive carefully to help save lives and properties.

He concluded that ideally, Road Safety should be everyone’s business where the Corps should play the role of guidance.
