Prof. Maurice Iwu, others speak at African Industrialization Week session

Former National Chairman of Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and presently, President of Bioresources Development Group, BDG, Professor Maurice Iwu, will be one of the Key Speakers at a Session of the African Industrialization Week, AIW, 2020.

The theme of this year’s weeklong (November 16-20, 2020) celebration of the AIW is “Inclusive and Sustainable Industrialization in the AfCFTA Era.”

The Break-Out Session of today, Tuesday, November 17, 2020, is on “The Role of Quality Infrastructure in Facilitating Industrialization and Sustainable Development of Africa,” and it starts at 12.30 HRS EAT.

Prof. Iwu, a world renowned Professor of Pharmacognosy, will dwell on The African Pharmaceuticals Industry: African Traditional Medicine (ATM) as the Industry’s Next Growth Engine to position Africa, more strongly on the path of Industrialization and trade in the face of COVID-19 and future global shocks and Pandemics: Mainstreaming the ATM into Healthcare Systems in Africa – Opportunities and Challenges and the Role of Quality Infrastructure and Regulations.

Other Key Speakers at the Webinar Session are Mr. Reuben Gisore, the Technical Director, ARSO; Dr. Barbara Siegmund, Head of International Cooperation in Sub-Saharan Africa, PTB, and Ms. Oluranti Doherty, Head of Export Development, African Export-Import Bank (AFREXIMBANK).

Also to speak at the Session, which will be moderated by Dr. Hermogene Nsengimana, Secretary General of ARSO are Mr. Aka J.J Kouassi, Chief Technical Advisor of West African Competiveness and Quality Infrastructure Project and Special Advisor to the ECOWAS Commissioner of Industry and Private Sector Promotion, and Jacques Nsengiyumva of the Rwanda Environment Management Agency (REMA).

Africa Industry Day, which falls on November 20 every year, was established in 1990 and is the day when a large number of African governments and organizations gather to examine different ways to stimulate the industrialization process in Africa.

This special day attracts a large amount of attention from around the world and special seminars, meetings and other types of events are held throughout Africa to mark it.
